The final project for ds106 is by far, the most exciting and creative final project I’ve ever had to do. For once I get to have fun with something, instead of bubbling in multiple choice answers or writing essays to show how much knowledge I have acquired through the semester. For my final project I want to do something that is centered around zombies! I see so many things that are zombie related everywhere I go, so why not create a zombie story using different forms of media?
I want to create a story that is purely about the zombie apocalypse. The beginning is how to prevent it, what to do, and most importantly, how to survive!
Visual/Design: I would like to start by creating a poster to show people what the zombies looking like, and let them know of their arrival! It’s very important for people to be well aware of how they look, so they can detect them from the normal crowed.
Video: I would like to do a “return to the silent era” video about zombies. For this I want to find an already existing clip online about zombies, to give people the visual of what they should look for. I want to have the return of the silent era because I feel that having no audio will only enhance the video of the zombies and will cause people to be more drawn to what they look like rather than the super scary sounds they make.
Audio: I want to create a sound effect story starting with regular people, than zombies coming and panic arising, zombie noises, people killing zombies, and people being happy again. This sound effect story can give people the inside of how things will play out during the apocalypse if they are well prepared. In this I also want to have a big piece in the middle where you can hear the sounds that zombies make. Like mentioned before, the sound will stand out since it wont be overshadowed by the visual.
Web: I plan on remaking a craiglist page advertising classes on what to do once the zombie starts coming. It’s extremely important for people to be prepared and I think that by advertising zombie survival classes, this will only help people become prepare when the problem arises.
Visual/Design: I want to end this project with another poster. A poster with information where the survivor of the apocalypse can find refuge and shelter to rebuild society. I think every story needs an ending, and I would like for mine to end the same way it started.
I really feel that the different forms of media I plan on using will help my narrative become more complete. The way I will set up each individual one will help it be organized and each form of media will lead to the next. I really like the theme about zombies, and am familiar with all of the different forms of media I will be using. I really hope that while producing this project something else will come up that will only make my project that much better.
A ds106 final wrap-up would never be complete without zombies! I like how you’re fleshing out an overarching narrative for your pieces. Maybe you want to include some piece that provides the zombie backstory? How did they come to be?
I really like how you are going to incorporate a little bit of everything that you have learned in DS106. But, most importantly the zombie idea is very cool and creative can wait to see the final project.
